Tabaway Browser Extension — Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Tabaway browser extension for Firefox and Chrome. Tabaway is free, open source software — the extension's code is publicly available for anyone to read.

What the extension does

Tabaway lets you send the URL of a browser tab to your own Tabaway server, so it can be saved into your personal tab/bookmark queue. That's its only function.

What data the extension accesses

Stored locally on your device, using your browser's built-in extension storage:

• The URL of the Tabaway server you've connected the extension to
• Your personal API token for that server

Neither of these ever leaves your device except as described below, and neither is accessible to us, to the extension developer, or to any third party.

Transmitted, only when you take an action (clicking the toolbar icon, or using a right-click menu item):

• The URL of the tab, link, or tabs you've chosen to send

This is sent directly from your browser to the Tabaway server address you configured in the extension's settings — nothing is sent anywhere else, and nothing is sent automatically or in the background.

Where your data goes

The extension only ever communicates with the Tabaway server URL you provide in its settings. That server is either self-hosted by you, or operated by whoever you're using Tabaway through (for example, a friend or family member running their own instance). The developer of this extension does not operate, receive data from, or have access to any Tabaway server unless it happens to be one we personally host — the extension itself has no built-in server of its own and no analytics or tracking endpoint.

Because each Tabaway instance is independently operated, the privacy practices of the server you connect to (how long it retains your data, who can access it, etc.) are governed by whoever runs that instance, not by this policy. If you're unsure who operates your Tabaway server, ask them directly.

What we don't do

• We don't sell or share your data with third parties.
• We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to sending tabs to your configured server.
• We don't include any analytics, tracking, or telemetry code in the extension.
• We don't use your data to assess creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Your control over this data

You can view or clear the stored server URL and API token at any time from the extension's options page. Uninstalling the extension removes this locally stored data from your browser.
